Las Cruces Man Charged With Kidnapping, Battering Woman

A Las Cruces man suspected of kidnapping and battering his girlfriend early Friday morning has been arrested and charged with five felonies.

Harry Huband, 30, of the 5400 block of Central Road, is charged with three counts of battery against a household member, and one count each of kidnapping and aggravated battery that may cause death or great bodily harm.

The woman had scratches and bruises to her neck, arms, chest and legs. Her injuries were not life threatening.

Detectives learned that a motorist was driving along Central Road on Las Cruces’ East Mesa when she was flagged down by a woman who was standing in the roadway. The motorist picked up the woman and called 911.

The woman told police that she had been tied up at a local residence and beaten with a tennis racket. She also claimed to have been strangled and dragged naked around the backyard before being able to escape.

The woman said the battery was a result of an argument she had with Huband. She was able to escape the home only after giving Huband the location and password to a cell phone.

Detectives detained Huband for questioning and determined that the evidence obtained was consistent with the allegations made by the woman.

Huband was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $25,000.
