Las Cruces Man Charged With Fracturing 2-Year Old's Skull

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A 2-year-old boy is being treated for a fractured skull at an area hospital and his mother's boyfriend is charged with inflicting the injuries.

Jason Narvaez, 25, of the 1800 block of Locust Street, is charged with one first-degree felony count of intentional child abuse resulting in great bodily harm.

The boy is listed in stable condition at University Medical Center of El Paso.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, Las Cruces Police were called to Memorial Medical Center where a 2-year-old boy was being treated for what appeared to be a head injury. The boy was subsequently airlifted to University Medical Center for more intensive care.

Through the course of their investigation Las Cruces Police detectives learned that the 2-year-old's mother was at work Thursday and Narvaez was caring for the boy. At some point late Thursday morning Narvaez apparently became upset because the child would not allow himself to be dressed.

Detectives learned that Narvaez then picked up the boy and threw him down a hallway causing the skull fracture.

Investigators discovered that the boy showed obvious signs of injury, his head was noticeable swollen, and he was nauseous for much of Thursday afternoon and evening. Not until the boy's mother returned from work early Friday morning did she realize the extent of his injuries and insisted on seeking medical treatment.

Narvaez was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $25,000.
