By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A Las Cruces man awaiting trial for his involvement in a 2007 murder was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with trafficking cocaine.

Isaac Mark Ramirez, 25, was arrested on a warrant and is charged with two counts of trafficking cocaine. Ramirez was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he's being held on a cash-only bond of $150,000.

The Las Cruces/Dona Ana County Metro Narcotics Agency conducted a two month long investigation that revealed Ramirez possessing and selling cocaine. A warrant was subsequently issued for the arrest of Ramirez.

At around 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, Metro Narcotics agents and members of the Las Cruces Police Department's SWAT team converged on the suspect's residence on the 800 block of Espanola Street in central Las Cruces. Ramirez was taken into custody without further incident.

Ramirez is awaiting trial in connection with the Sept. 8, 2007, shooting death of 36-year-old William Lucero who was shot at his home on Jade Avenue in the Las Colinas subdivision. Ramirez, 27-year-old Moses Menchaca and Benjamin Tapia, 29, were arrested in connection with the shooting. Menchaca was charged with murder.

For his part in the crime Ramirez was charged with shooting at a dwelling, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of conspiracy, and one count each of aggravated assault and tampering with evidence.
