The Las Cruces City Council has approved design and build contracts for four General Obligation (GO) Bond projects. The council voted 6-0 during Monday’s, Nov. 18, 2019 City Council meeting to award three of the four contracts to Highland Enterprises, Inc., of Las Cruces.  Here is a statement from the City:

Highland Enterprises was awarded a $122,900 contract for walking, jogging, biking and recreational trail projects, and a contract of $157,754.48 for improvements to be made at Maag Park, Harty Ballfield Complex, Ron Galla T-Ball Field and Paz Park. Also, Highland Enterprises has a $63,750 contract with the City of Las Cruces for park and sports courts rehabilitation projects as part of the project.

A fourth contract, also for design and construction, was awarded to Dekker, Perich, and Sabatini Architects, who also has an office in Las Cruces, for playground rehabilitation and construction of a splash pad at Unidad Park, on Hadley Avenue. That contract is for $92,500.

“We now have design firms and constructions firms on board so we can begin setup plans as we go along,” said Public Works Director David Maestas. “As we move forward, we will have public input meetings so City residents can see the plans for all of these projects and to offer their comments.”

In a special mail-in ballot election between July 24 and August 21, 2018 Las Cruces voters approved four GO Bond questions totaling $35.6 million. Approval of the GO Bond will enable the City to construct improvements to city parks, sports fields and other related facilities; to construct a new animal shelter and make related improvements; to construct a replacement fire station on Valley Drive; and to improve recreational walking, jogging and biking trails.

Maestas said the GO Bond program is on schedule for all improvements and additions to be made.

“The GO Bond project is a four-year cycle,” Maestas said. “Right now, construction is estimated to be finished by the end of 2020 for some projects and by early 2022 for all projects.”
