Las Cruces Boy Dies After Being Hit By Truck

The 5-year-old boy struck by a pickup Friday on Cambridge Drive has died as a result of his injuries.

Traffic investigators learned that the boy died Sunday evening at an El Paso hospital.

The crash occurred about 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, on the 100 block of W. Cambridge Drive. The investigation has revealed that a Toyota pickup was heading east on Cambridge when the young boy entered the roadway from between two parked vehicles. The 17-year-old driver of the Toyota was unable to stop before the pickup struck the young boy. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators.

The injured boy was airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso in critical condition. He was pronounced dead shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23.

Speed, alcohol use and distracted driving are not believed to be contributing factors in this crash. At this time, no charges or citations are expected to be filed in this case.
