Las Cruces Airport Funding Boost

Las Cruces – Las Cruces International Airport will receive $174,500 in federal funds to install weather reporting equipment, just part of a package of airport upgrades in New Mexico.

U.S. Senator Tom Udall today announced airports across New Mexico will receive a total of $6.79 million for runway rehabilitations, lighting replacement and new equipment.

The funding distributed through the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration includes $4.78 million for the Albuquerque International Sunport for rehabilitation of all taxiway lights.

"From runway rehabilitation to weather reporting equipment, the Department of Transportation is providing key support for these local airports to complete projects that are critical to their successful and safe operation," said Udall, member of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. "Not only will the completion of these projects create jobs within their respective communities, they will also ensure that New Mexico's airports remain in dependable condition to welcome the tourists and visitors that our so essential to our local economies."
