Albuquerque, New Mexico – ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRWG) Republican Senate candidate Heather Wilson says GOP strategist Karl Rove will appear at a fundraiser for her campaign next month.
Wilson announced Wednesday that Rove is the featured guest at an Aug. 11 fundraising reception in Albuquerque.
Rove was a top aide to former President George W. Bush and his appearance could help Wilson among conservatives in the GOP primary next year.
Wilson and Lt. Gov. John Sanchez are seeking the GOP nomination along with Las Cruces businessman Greg Sowards.
On the Democratic side, Congressman Martin Heinrich, State Auditor Hector Balderas and Albuquerque political activist Andres Valdez are running for the Senate seat being vacated by Democratic incumbent Jeff Bingaman.
Wilson lost a 2008 Senate primary race and was criticized for being too moderate on tax and spending issues.
