Joint Doctoral Program Planned for NMSU

Las Cruces – New Mexico State University is working with a school south of the border to create a new joint-doctoral program.

NMSU's College of Engineering and the University of
Chihuahua have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create a
joint-doctoral program in civil engineering.

The University approached NMSU this year seeking a means to bring advanced civil engineering programs into their curriculum.

It was driven by a need to have a pool of civil engineers to rebuild Mexico's infrastructure ..everything from highways to water systems.

The agreement will establish a joint-Ph.D. program where qualified students take courses at both universities and finish at EITHER university.

The program will join a growing list of international ties for NMSU.

This year, New Mexico State was selected by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers as one of the 10 universities, across the country, to receive Ph.D. engineering students from Ecuador.

In that program .the Ecuadorian government
pays their entire tuition, and they can apply to any one of the engineering departments at NMSU.
