Investment Council Members Donated To Richardson Campaign

By KRWG News

New Mexico – Five of the six recent appointees to a newly revamped state council contributed more than $10,000 to the 2008 presidential campaign of Gov. Bill Richardson, whose influence over the group has been in question.

The State Investment Council oversees about $13 billion in investments for the state and has been beset by allegations of investment malfeasance. One of the aims of a law passed by the Legislature earlier this year is to reduce the influence of governors over the council and its appointed members.

The appointees who donated to Richardson's campaign say the contributions won't have any affect on their ability to serve as an independent group.

One of the appointees, Craig Reeves, says just because he supports a campaign doesn't mean he's going to agree with that elected official.
