Impeachment Panel Will Debate Future Of PRC Member

By KRWG News

New Mexico – The House has named 10 Democrats and Republicans to consider whether to impeach Public Regulation Commissioner Jerome Block Jr. for alleged misuse of taxpayer money.

Democratic Joseph Cervantes of Las Cruces and Republican Zachary Cook of Ruidoso were appointed Tuesday as co-chairmen of the Rules subcommittee on impeachment.

Block is under investigation for abuse of a state-issued gasoline card and the state Court of Appeals has reinstated charges against him for misuse of campaign money from his 2008 race.

The subcommittee is to hire a lawyer to investigate allegations against Block and then decide whether to recommend impeachment.

A majority House vote is required to impeach Block. The Senate would then hold a trial, and a two-thirds vote is necessary to convict Block and permanently remove him from office.
