Highway Near Thompson Ridge Fire Reopens

A highway near the Thompson Ridge fire in northern New Mexico has reopened as firefighters strengthen perimeter lines and mop up hot spots.

The fire management team says crews attacked the fire's southeastern side overnight and stopped its forward progress, allowing State Route 4 to be reopened Monday morning.

The fire was closed over the weekend from the highway's junction with State Route 126 to the junction with State Route 501.

The fire has burned just under 33 square miles in the Valle Caldera National Preserve and the Santa Fe National Forest near Jemez Springs. It started May 31.

Approximately 1,000 personnel are assigned to the fire. Approximately 20 National Guard personnel are delivering supplies to firefighters.

Containment is estimated at 40 percent.
