‘Hidden Figures’ author to speak at NMSU

Her book was a No. 1 New York Times’ best-seller. The film adaptation of her book was the No. 1 movie in the United States. Margot Lee Shetterly, author of “Hidden Figures,” will speak at New Mexico State University at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 3.

In “Hidden Figures,” Shetterly tells the story of female African-American mathematicians who played a vital role in NASA’s success as the United States Space Program took shape during a time of segregation.

Part of the University Speakers Series, Shetterly will provide a keynote speech in the ASNMSU Center for the Arts Medoff Theatre. Admission is free.

Shetterly’s presentation is made possible by Associated Students of NMSU, Department of Computer Science, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Honors College, Interdisciplinary Studies Department, Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost and the College of Engineering’s Women in STEM.

The University Speakers Series features a presenter of international acclaim each year free of charge to the entire community. A committee comprised of NMSU faculty and community members selects the speaker. The committee aims to represent a broad range of timely and provocative subjects, and it strives to include distinguished authors, critics, artists, scientists and social commentators.
