Helena Plans Meetings Regarding Appeal

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Helena Chemical will hold public meetings this summer to explain why the company is appealing a New Mexico Environment Department decision that denied the firm's effort to operate without a state air quality permit.

The meetings will be July 6 in Santa Fe and July 21 in Mesquite.

Helena Chemical operates a warehouse and fertilizer plant in Mesquite, south of Las Cruces. A company official, Louis Rodrige, says the company is looking forward "to sharing factual information that demonstrates an air quality permit is not necessary or required."

Rodrige says the plant already has good air quality.

A spokeswoman for the Environment Department says state officials have no comment on Helena's plans to conduct the meetings.
