Grandson Allegedly Beats Grandmothre Over Money

Dona Ana County Sheriff

A 19-year-old Las Cruces man was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly locking his grandmother in her bedroom and beating her repeatedly with his fists.
Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 59-year-old woman’s home in the 2900 block of Doña Ana Road, which she shares with her grandson.
The woman told investigators that her grandson, Daniel Guzman, was arguing with her and demanding that she give him money.
To diffuse the situation, the woman told investigators she went to her bedroom. Guzman reportedly followed her, closing the door and locking it behind him. He then allegedly began to hit his grandmother on her legs and her right arm.
Guzman reportedly would not let the woman leave her room and would not let his girlfriend, who was also in the home, come to his grandmother’s rescue. The victim reportedly uses a cane and a wheelchair to get around.
Doña Ana County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Guzman and charged him with one count of battery against a household member and one count of false imprisonment. He was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he’s being held on a $5,000 secured bond.
