Governor Martinez To Help Lead GOP Candidate Recruitment Nationwide

Office of the Governor

New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and her Nevada counterpart will head up a new Republican national effort to recruit Hispanic and female candidates for state offices across the country.  Martinez and Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval will serve as co-chairs of a new caucus being formed by the Republican State Leadership Committee.

The GOP effort comes in the wake of President Barack Obama's success in capturing Hispanic votes during the last presidential election.

Martinez political adviser Jay McCleskey says Martinez will be active both in recruiting candidates and helping them raise money for their campaigns.

Martinez is the nation's first elected Hispanic female governor. Sandoval is Nevada's first Hispanic governor.
