Free Screening of Acclaimed Film About the Six Day War for Jerusalem

Las Cruces – With Jerusalem in the headlines recently, people may wonder, what events led to the state of the Middle East today?

The critically-acclaimed film, “In Our Hands: The Battle for Jerusalem,” about the Six-Day War which profoundly shaped the current state of the Middle East, will be screened at Temple Beth-El in Las Cruces.

The film will be shown on Sunday, December 17, at 2pm, at Temple Beth-El, 3980 Sonoma Springs Ave.  Refreshments will be available after the film.  The screening is free and the Las Cruces community and surrounding areas are invited to attend.

In the early summer of 1967, Israel was openly threatened with annihilation by the powerful combine armed forces of three surrounding Arab nations. Featuring first-hand accounts by and about the very individuals involved in the conflict, from governmental and military leaders to ordinary civilians and soldiers, “In Our Hands: the Battle for Jerusalem” reveals the profound human and moral dimensions underlying one of the most momentous Middle East wars of our time. The poignant personal recollections of the reservists who comprised Israel’s 55thParatroop Brigade are featured in this acclaimed documentary. Initially assigned to capture an Egyptian stronghold in Sinai, and then suddenly tasked with battling the formidable Jordanian forces that occupied Israel’s eastern heartland, these remarkably un-militaristic citizen-soldiers liberated Jerusalem’s Old City and returned the Western Wall to Jewish hands for the first time since Israel’s War of Independence 20 years earlier.

The film is rated suitable for all ages, and will be followed by light refreshments and informal discussion. There is no admission fee. For more information, contact Aggie Saltman, mzaggieo@gmail.com, or 575-649-4356
