Former Las Cruces Police Detective Indicted

  Former Las Cruces Detective Michael Garcia who was initially arrested in August for sexually assaulting a minor, and was arrested a second time in September with ten additional charges related to sexually assaulting another young girl has been indicted in both cases.

Garcia was indicted on Two Counts of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor in the Second Degree (Person in position of Authority) and Criminal Sexual Penetration in the Third Degree.  Garcia was indicted on all charges filed on the second case of sexual assault which include Two Counts of Criminal Sexual Penetration in the First Degree (Child Under 13), Two Counts of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor in the Second Degree (Child Under 13), and Six Counts of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor in the Second Degree (Person in Position of Authority).  

Garcia is due to appear in District Court, before the Honorable Judge Beyer on October 15, 2013 to plead the charges in both cases.  He remains free on $50,000 secured bond in the first case and $20,000 secured bond in the second case.
