Flags At Half Staff To Honor Gadsden Graduate

Las Cruces – Governor Bill Richardson signed a proclamation today lowering flags across the state to half staff in honor of Army Specialist Tony Carrasco, 25, who was killed in the line of duty while serving his country in Ad Dawr, Iraq on November 4th.
Specialist Carrasco, a native of Berino, NM was a 2003 graduate of Gadsden High School. He joined the Army in 2008. Spc. Carrasco was assigned to B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 32nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division in Fort Riley, Kansas.
Specialist Carrasco is survived by his wife, Johana of Anthony, NM.
In memory and honor of U.S. Army Specialist Tony Carrasco, Governor Richardson signed an Executive Order directing flags be flown at half-staff from Saturday, November 14, 2009 through sundown on Monday, November 16, 2009.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 2009-045
FLAGS FLOWN AT HALF STAFF IN HONOR AND MOURNING
OF UNITED STATES ARMY CORPORAL ANTHONY "TONY" CARRASCO, JR.
WHEREAS, United States Army Corporal Anthony "Tony" Carrasco, Jr., age 25, died on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, while serving in Ad Dawr, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom;
WHEREAS, Corporal Carrasco, a native of Anthony, New Mexico, was born on February 11, 1984 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was a proud 2003 graduate of Gadsden High School where he was remembered as a being a hard-working agricultural student;
WHEREAS, Corporal Carrasco joined the Army in January of 2008. Corporal Carrasco was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 32nd Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division based at Ft. Riley, Kansas;
WHEREAS, Corporal Carrasco is survived by his wife, Johana, who is currently expecting their child, step-children Ilse and Axel, and his parents, Antonio and Juana Carrasco, and numerous other family members; and
WHEREAS, Corporal Carrasco's patriotism, bravery, and dedication to the Nation will always be remembered.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bill Richardson, Governor of the State of New Mexico, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the Laws of the State of New Mexico, do hereby order that all flags be flown at half-staff from Saturday, November 14, 2009, until sundown on Monday, November 16, 2009, in honor and mourning of United States Army Corporal Anthony Carrasco. The thoughts and prayers of the people of New Mexico go out to his family as well as a heartfelt appreciation for his courageous service.
