Firefighters battle blaze in southeastern NM
KRWG News – LOVINGTON, N.M. (KRWG) Forestry officials say a wildfire in southeastern New Mexico has destroyed three structures and is threatening some homes.
The state Forestry Department says local officials Sunday called for a voluntary evacuation of six rural homes off State Road 206 several miles north of Lovington.
Department spokesman Dan Ware says the so-called Enterprise Fire was 50 percent contained as of late Sunday night, after scorching 30,000 acres. Thirty-five fire units from several departments are battling it. The cause is still unknown.
Meanwhile, a fire that has been burning for days on the west end of the Guadalupe Mountains near Carlsbad is 70 percent contained.
Forestry officials say no structures have been destroyed in the so-called Dog Canyon Fire, but a campground was closed.
