Federal Funds To Help Reach Medicare Recipients

KRWG News – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) The New Mexico Health Insurance Assistance Program is getting the first installment of funds to help Medicare recipients in the state.
The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says the money will give Medicare beneficiaries information and counseling about their health care choices.

The grant will be in effect until next March 31.

The New Mexico State Health Insurance Assistance Program will receive nearly $395,000.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Administrator Dr. Daniel Berwick says the money will allow such programs to encourage beneficiaries to use a new annual wellness visit and other preventive services under the Affordable Care Act.

He says the educational services also will help beneficiaries identify and report suspected Medicare fraud.
