Embattled El Paso Principal Resigns

An embattled administrator in a West Texas school district investigating a testing scandal has dropped efforts to keep his job.

The El Paso Times reports that Luis Loya has resigned, effective June 30. The principal of the Center for Career and Technology Education previously denied wrongdoing and said he would appeal a school board decision not to renew his contract.

An outside audit made public in early April found systematic test rigging and grade manipulation in the El Paso Independent School District.

Three other principals and four assistant principals who had been put on leave were reinstated. Loya on Monday submitted his resignation.

Ex-El Paso High School superintendent Lorenzo Garcia is serving more than three years in prison after pleading guilty to fraud in the testing scam.
