Embattled El Paso Independent School District Official Plans To Resign

Leaders of a West Texas school district mired in a testing scandal have accepted the resignation of an educator who's been on paid leave since December.

Trustees of the El Paso Independent School District on Tuesday night accepted the resignation of James Anderson, effective June 30. Anderson is assistant superintendent of secondary schools.

The school board had been in the process of firing Anderson, who was appealing. Anderson has said he believed he was wrongly targeted for dismissal because he told the El Paso Times that he tried to expose the cheating.

A standardized tests scheme has landed the district's former superintendent in prison for more than three years after he pleaded guilty to fraud. The district is operating under close scrutiny of the Texas Education Agency.
