El Paso ISD Closer To Getting New Superintendent
A West Texas school district recovering from a testing scandal that sent an administrator to federal prison could be closer to naming a new superintendent.
The El Paso Independent School District board of managers meets Monday afternoon and the agenda includes a closed session to interview a candidate. Any vote on a new superintendent would take place during the open public session.
The district hasn't had a permanent superintendent since Lorenzo Garcia was suspended two years ago and later pleaded guilty to fraud. Garcia last fall was sentenced to more than three years in prison in the scam to prevent some under-performing students from taking required government accountability exams.
An audit confirmed the unfair effort to improve testing results.
Names of a potential replacement for Garcia haven't been made public.
