By KRWG News

Silver City – Federal officials have presented a $267,000 grant to Western New Mexico University in Silver City to update and expand distance learning programs in Grant, Luna, McKinley, Sierra, Socorro, Hidalgo and Catron counties.

The award was one of 111 projects in 35 states funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The New Mexico project will provide new video-conferencing equipment to replace 10-year-old tools. The system will be expanded to deliver services to 20 communities. Courses will be offered on high school and dual credit courses, teacher training and workforce development.

The new equipment includes receivers, video screens, video cameras and LCD screens.
