Court To Hear Lawsuit Against Martinez

By KRWG News

New Mexico – The state Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing next month on a lawsuit against Gov. Susana Martinez by labor unions representing public employees.

The court will hear oral arguments in the case on April 13.

Unions have asked the justices to order Martinez to reinstate members of the Public Employee Labor Relations Board, which enforces the state's collective bargaining law for government workers. The unions contend the Republican governor exceeded her powers in firing the three-member board and its executive director. They say the board, not the governor, has the right to hire an executive director.

Martinez maintains she has the authority under state law to remove board members.
