Council May Vote To Approve Pay Hike For Las Cruces City Manager

The Las Cruces City Council will consider Tuesday whether to raise the salary of City Manager Robert Garza.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that the hike would raise Garza's salary to $166,000 and be part of proposed revisions to his contract that increase a requirement that he take a two-week vacation on consecutive weeks every year beyond the four weeks of annual leave he already receives.

Garza has been city manager for a little more than two years.

Initially getting a two-year contract when he began in January 2011, Garza's contract was extended three more years, and he was given a 5-percent raise — to $157,000 — a year ago.

He received favorable job performance reviews from the council.

Mayor Ken Miyagishima says Garza has earned new contract perks.
