For three days, anyone looking to adopt a pet from the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley can take advantage of a special Cinco de Mayo discount.
From May 3-5, the adoption fee for dogs and cats will be $18.62, a nod to the Mexican army’s historic victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Adoption fees are usually $75 for dogs/puppies and $50 for cats/kittens. The fee includes age-appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter and microchip.
The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley is open for adoptions Friday from 12-6 p.m. and from 12-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at 3551 Bataan Memorial West. Pets adopted during the off-site adoption fair at the Farmer’s Market can also get the Cinco de Mayo discount, and also at Petco, 3050 East Lohman, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Last year, the shelter successfully placed 62 animals during its Cinco de Mayo adoption special.
