Attorney: Actions By State Police Not Justified

An attorney representing the family of a woman who was shot and killed by a New Mexico State Police officer following a high-speed chase says the shooting wasn't justified.

Tom Clark also says the pursuit of Jeannette Anaya over a traffic violation wasn't justified and neither was the use of the bumping maneuver that caused her car to hit a wall at the end of the chase.

Police say the 39-year-old woman was shot last week after she aggressively backed up toward an officer and hit his patrol car.

The complete autopsy report isn't available, but the Office of the Medical Investigator confirms Anaya died from gunshot wounds to the head and back.

Officer Oliver Wilson remains on leave while the shooting is investigated.
