A&M System Leader's Work Reviewed In Private

The Texas A&M University System chancellor's work is reviewed every year — behind closed doors and without a written public record.

John Sharp received a verbal evaluation from 10 A&M System regents on Nov. 1, 2012, about a year after he became chancellor. Officials did not release any documentation of that meeting in response to an open-records request.

The newspaper reports that all six Texas university systems say they do performance reviews of their chancellors behind closed doors.

Sharp and Phil Adams, chairman of the board of regents, say the "verbal process employed is working well."
