11th DWI Arrest For Las Cruces Bank Exec
By KRWG News
Las Cruces – Authorities say a bank executive has been arrested for the 11th time for investigation of drunken driving after a high-speed test drive in a new Corvette that he hadn't returned to a Las Cruces auto dealer.
Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department records show Michael David Chavez had a blood-alcohol level of .28 -- more than three times the legal limit.
Deputies said Chavez was stopped while driving 92 mph in a 55-mph zone south of Mesquite just before midnight April 9.
Investigators said Chavez had borrowed the $65,000 sports car earlier in the day and didn't return it as promised, claiming he was tied up in meetings. They say Chavez has a driver's license requiring him to only drive vehicles with ignition interlock devices. It was unclear if the dealership knew that.
Chavez has eight previous DWI convictions and two other DWI arrests.
