Community Forum Held to Discuss Possible Sites for New Area High School

Las Cruces, NM – Tuesday night the Las Cruces Public Schools held their final community forum on the 4 sites which may be selected for a new high school. Members from the site selection committee presented data and images to the public about each of the sites being considered. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, two possible sites are on the city's East Mesa, while another is on the West Mesa, and one in the Dripping Springs area.

Miyagishima and Mattiace Compete for the Mayor's Seat One More Time

Las Cruces, NM – During next Tuesday's municipal elections, thirteen candidates hope to retain or win several key city of Las Cruces positions. Up for election are a Municipal Judge seat, three City Council Districts and the Mayor's position. Three New Faces Run for Las Cruces City Council District Four Seat

Las Cruces, NM – Next Tuesday, thirteen candidates will compete during the Las Cruces municipal elections for the mayor's position, City Council District's one, two and four as well as a municipal court judge seat. Artistic Barricades to Surround City Hall Construction

Las Cruces, NM – Contract negotiations to build the new Las Cruces City Hall are set to begin this month with construction expected to begin early next year. As KRWG's Nazca Warren reports, before the building crews arrive, a group of local artists are getting their brushes ready to barricade the disorder of construction with several Southwestern themed murals.

County Commission Votes to Delay Collection of Spaceport Tax

Las Cruces, NM – The Dona Ana County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously today to delay the implementation of the Spaceport Gross Receipts Tax. The quarter of one percent tax will not be collected until a Spaceport District can be formed with another county or city government. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, commissioners are hopeful that Otero or Sierra County will pass a Spaceport Tax so a district can be created.

Las Cruces, NM – Tuesday morning Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez announced he will run for the United States Senate seat left open by retiring Senator Pete Domenici. The Democrat is currently serving his third term as mayor of the states largest city. Protestors Paint Permanent Reminder of Murdered Women in Juarez

Las Cruces, NM – A small group of mothers, who lost a daughter in the Mexican city of Juarez, gathered with supporters this weekend to create permanent reminders of the over four hundred women that have been killed in the border city. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, the group painted black crosses on Ciudad Juarez' newest highway despite warnings from local authorities.

NMSU Social Work Program Earns $500,000 Grant

Las Cruces, NM – The New Mexico State Universtiy School of Social Work was awarded a $500,000 grant for the prevention of domestic violence in rural areas of Dona Ana County. The School of Social Work is teaming up with the university Geography department, La Casa, and the Dona Ana County Health Department on the project.

Senate Defense Bill to Fund Southern New Mexico Projects

Las Cruces, NM – The United States Senate approved the Fiscal Year 2008 Defense Appropriations Bill Wednesday. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, the four hundred and sixty billion dollar bill includes millions of dollars in funding for research projects in Southern New Mexico.
