Las Cruces, NM – The International Brotherhood of Teamsters recently launched a commercial campaign attacking United States Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters and demanding her removal. Las Cruces, NM – Friday the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, or T-C-E-Q will consider a request from the city of El Paso to delay their decision about the reopening of the ASARCO copper smelter. As KRWG s Jessica Borchert reports, ASARCO is seeking the approval of an air quality permit to re-open their El Paso plant.

Las Cruces, NM – Over one thousand school districts nationwide have implemented random student drug testing programs as a means of school based drug prevention, deterrence and treatment. As KRWG's Callie French reports, a White House representative will host a meeting this week in Albuquerque to talk with educators about the importance of drug testing.

Las Cruces, New Mexico – This Sunday a record setting number of viewers tuned in to watch Super Bowl forty-two and witnessed the surprise victory of the New York Giants over the New England Patriots. While many people were betting on one of the two football teams many advertisers gambled millions of dollars on Super bowl ads. Las Cruces, NM – A number of Las Crucens piled into a small campaign office Tuesday afternoon to rally in support of Senator Barak Obama. The Obama for President Campaign was holding a grand opening celebration for their new Las Cruces office. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, the Illinois Senator has recently picked up a number of endorsements from Southern New Mexico politicians, including Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima who was on hand at the event.

Las Cruces, NM – Monday, Senator Mary Jane Garcia's Human Trafficking bill unanimously passed the Senate Judiciary Committee where the proposed legislation stalled last year. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, Garcia says the misinterpretations of the bill have been clarified so, she expects the proposal will make it to the Governor's desk.

Las Cruces, NM – The Dona Ana County Board of Commissioners and the Las Cruces City Council will each hold special meetings today to consider signing a Memorandum of Agreement, or MOA to take over the funding and operations at the Dona Ana County Animal Shelter. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, the shelter was previously run by the Dona Ana County Humane Society who told the city and county it would no longer operate the shelter after January.

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is challenging a decision by the Environmental Protection Agency. According to a press release from the governor's office, Richardson and governors from thirteen other states mailed a letter to the epa administrator. The letter is expressing their disappointment in the dismissal of a waiver that would have allowed states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cars.
