Las Cruces, NM – . IN 2007, STUDENTS CHARGED WITH VIOLENT CRIMES COULD HAVE THEIR RECORDS GIVEN TO THEIR SCHOOL OFFICIALS. A NEW BILL HAS BEEN INTRODUCED DURING NEW MEXICO'S CURRENT LEGISLATIVE SESSION BY STATE SENATOR STEVEN NEVILLE OF AZTEC. THIS LEGISLATION WOULD MAKE IT MANDATORY FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO BE NOTIFIED IF A STUDENT A VIOLENT CRIME.

News Brief: NM Senate Bill 204 in Process

Las Cruces, New Mexico – If current legislation proposed in Santa Fe passes, New Mexico State University might get tax breaks to host more live events in the future. State Senator Leonard Lee Rawson is sponsoring senate bill 204, which would eliminate the gross receipts tax currently charged for hosting events at the Pan American Center. Rawson says the bill would not remove the tax from NMSU athletic events.

Tri-County Meeting Stirs Debate Over Spaceport

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico Economic Development Secretary, Rick Homans says he expects to break ground at Spaceport America by this time next year. Homans was in Las Cruces today to answer questions from three county commissions and their residents about the proposed spaceport. Dona Ana, Otero, and Sierra county commissioners were all on hand along with a number of area residents and representatives. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, some serious concerns were raised by local officials.

City Discusses Future Relations with El Paso Electric

1/10/07 – An informational public meeting was held in Las Cruces city hall yesterday/Tuesday to clear up confusion regarding the city's franchise agreement with El Paso Electric. In June, the electric utility company asked the Public Regulation Commission for an 18% rate increase for the citizens of Las Cruces. as KRWG's Amanda Grube reports, the city is planning an intervention with the PRC to fight the rate increase.
